Extensive refurbishment of the Ekbacka area in Hisings Backa is currently under way. The renewal of the area is taking place in phases. The first two phases have now been completed and the third phase is at the planning stage. The aim is that ultimately the whole of Backa Röd will be refurbished.
The first phase, Markurellgatan 1-11, comprises 72 apartments and was completed in 2005. In summer 2006 the second phase was completed and covered the remaining 144 apartments on Markurellgatan. Planning for the third phase has now been finalised and covers 168 apartments in low-rise buildings on Baron Rogers gata. Work is expected to commence in 2007.
During the refurbishment the buildings are being given new facades in light-coloured rendering and the entrances are being extended outwards with large, glazed sections. Inside the apartments the kitchens and bathrooms are being completely renovated. The apartments generally are undergoing extensive refurbishment with new floors, wallcoverings and doors. All the installation systems in the apartments are replaced, the balconies are being extended and a number are being enclosed.
New flower beds, better lighting and a separate building for bicycles in the areas between the buildings are a number of the measures that are being taken to create a brighter and more secure outdoor environment.
The redevelopment process has taken place in close collaboration with the tenants. Working groups with representatives from both the tenants and Poseidon have produced a series of measures, reflecting the maintenance requirements of the buildings and the wishes of the tenants.
